barbeque technique Archives

Article by Andrew Bicknell

As the weather gets warmer many of us turn our thoughts and stomachs to that great past time, the barbecue. We all know there is that time of the year when suddenly the mouth watering smell of someone barbecuing begins to waft across the neighborhood. And with almost limitless choices, such as, steak, chicken, pork, ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, shish kabobs and anything else you can think of, to throw on the grill the tasty goodness can last all summer long. The nice thing about firing up the barbecue is that it takes minimal effort and little cleanup to have your favorite food cooked and served. Most of the food cooked on a barbecue just needs to be thawed, maybe marinated a few hours before and then slapped on the grill for that smoky great taste.

Now that doesn’t mean that the food will cook itself. You need to monitor your food closely because a barbecue will cook your food quicker and you have to keep an eye out for flare ups and hot spots which can cause the food to cook unevenly. This is particularly true when it comes to using a charcoal grill which can burn food quickly if not monitored closely. With charcoal grills there is also the chance of starting a fire somewhere you may not want one because of the hot ash and embers that fall out of the draft holes on the bottom of the grill.

The nice thing about using a barbecue, whether it’s a gas grill or charcoal grill, is that the techniques used are pretty universal when it comes to cooking your food. Do be aware that different grills will cook differently so there may a learning curve of just getting used to a grill when you first start out. There is a plethora of information and references out there for first time barbecuer. You can buy hardbound books filled with recipes and tips, or download digital e-books that contains the same, or even search the internet for tons of free recipes and advice on all things barbecue. With any of these resources you can become a seasoned grill master in a relatively short time.

Everyone who barbecues has their own opinion on what type of barbecue is best. The traditional charcoal barbecue grill and the more modern barbecue gas grill are the two best selling types of grill today. Aficionados of the charcoal grill continually espouse the classic smoky barbecue taste that a charcoal grill brings while those who favor the gas barbecue grill enjoy the ease of use and controllability of the gas grill. No matter which one of these barbecues you choose you are sure to enjoy them for years to come.

Do pit bikes sound like something youve heard of, but cant place where? The pit bike is basically a small motorbike, which was traditionally used in bike racing or car racing pits, as a mode of transport that was easily stored and not bulky, hence the name.

Beginnings

Beginning in the 1960s as a pit traversing method, they grew in popularity as a fun racing vehicle in their own right. People often use pit bikes to race on tracks, and they can be a great fun alternative to fully sized bikes.

Pit bikes are generally a lot smaller than a motorbike, and can seem to resemble childs motorbikes (which of course dont really exist). While they are small, pit bikes can easily be driven by most adults and they are the group of people that use them most commonly. Regarding children, it is advised that very small children do not ride pit bikes as they can be extremely powerful and so are dangerous if you do not have the necessary skills to control one.

Slightly older children are ok to drive pit bikes, as long as they are being overseen by an adult and are wearing correct safety gear. This includes a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and long sleeves and trousers, in case they scrape their skin on the hard ground.

The power that a pit bike has can vary greatly, with the lower powered bikes being preferable for younger users, and the more powerful bikes being used by older or more skilled users, mainly for racing and such uses.

Road use

Due to their small size, they cannot be used on public roads, but to be fair, the experience of driving a bike of such a small size on a public road would be far too scary to every be attempted willingly. Although their acceleration levels are impressive and seem to match those of a fully sized bike (due to their small weight to engine power ratio), the top speed of a pit bike will not be sufficient to drive on a public road in any case.

They are commonly used in race tracks or even in privately owned fields, as long as they are not too muddy. Additionally, Pit Bikes are perfect for storing where space is an issue and there is no room for a fully sized bike. This makes them perfect for those with no garage or off road garage; they can be stored in the hallway or even in the side of a room, as long as they are kept clean. As well as being easy to store, they are also easy to transport, as they can be transported in the boot of a car.

Petrol Scooter stocks several types of Road Legal Quadbikes including the TGB Target sports quad, TGB Blade utility quad and the Quantum NF quad range. They also stock latest pit bikes, scooters including 125 Scooters, 50cc scooters, etc. Visit http://www.petrolscooter.co.uk for more information.

No it’s not in Brooklyn and no I didn’t ask why it’s called Brooklyn Bar, however if you are looking for a big night out on the town then Brooklyn Bar should definitely be on the list.

For those who aren’t Sydney locals, Brooklyn Bar, located on George street down the Circular Quay end of town has a bit of everything to offer on both Friday and Saturday. As a regular to this club, I decided to do what no regular bar and nightclub review ever does, and go there on both Friday and Saturday (It’s a tough job).

If you are heading there Friday night, let it be known that this is the local bar of the Deloitte employees who’s building is right next to Brooklyn Bar. Accordingly, if your idea of a great night out is to party with a bunch of rich accountants (and wannabe rich accountants) then look no further. If anything, accountants wearing ,000 suits provides a great contrast to the venue which is part pub, part bar, part beer garden, part atrium and when 10 O’clock strikes…

All nightclub!!! With regular events held there, if you are a tightarse or simply a poor uni student then get there nice and early to enjoy both free entry and great drink specials.

Saturday night, Brooklyn bar is a different place altogether. Suits are gone and it’s party time for the under 30′s. Playing a mix of RnB, Hip Hop and Dance music, for the George Street clubber, Brooklyn bar is definitely a place to spend an hour or two. We stayed there enjoying cheap drinks till about 11pm before heading to the Rocks to continue our evening.
